Skullcap

Skullcap (Scutellaria) has around 200 varieties (Scutellaria Lateriflora//Galericulata/Baicalensis being the most well known) and is a perenial flowering member of the mint family (Lamiaceae) native to the wetlands and marshes of Northern USA. The native americans have used Skullcap for centuries, especially Lateriflora, for its many health benefits. Scutellaria Baicalensis (native to China) is also used medicinally, but the roots of the plant are used, as opposed to the above ground parts, as with Lateriflora/Galericulata). A variety of Skullcap known as ‘Scutellaria Nana, or Dwarf Skullcap, is reputed to have effects as strong as Cannabis if smoked, however it is quite rare, considered somewhat semi-endangered and as such seeds are virtually impossible to obtain. Lateriflora is also known as ‘Mad Dog’ as it was used to treat rabies.
